Caliber's Commitment to Sustainability: A Win for the Environment and Drivers

At Caliber, we don't just celebrate Earth Month in April; we live our commitment to the environment and to the health and safety of our teammates and customers every single day.

Our dedication to being as environmentally conscious and sustainable as possible is evident in everything we do, from repairing damaged parts instead of replacing them to following stringent hazardous waste regulations.

Repair over replace: A sustainable approach

One of the key ways we uphold our commitment to sustainability is by prioritizing repairs over replacements. This not only helps the environment but also saves on repair costs, benefiting drivers. Our technicians are equipped with the latest tools and technology, including plastic welders, to repair more parts and reduce waste.

Let’s take a look at how that works:

Standard processes for sustainability, including waste management

To ensure compliance with federal, state, and local hazardous waste regulations, we've created nationwide waste management initiatives.

But we frequently go above and beyond by following the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) best-practice recommendations, even when they exceed the minimum requirements. Our centers use water-based basecoat and prioritize other waterborne paints and/or paint products with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Our technicians are ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certified, exceeding industry standards and regulatory requirements. And Caliber has invested in upgraded and innovative ventilation systems, helping to protect our teammates AND clean air.

Recycling: Better than disposal

At Caliber, we believe in recycling waste over simply disposing of it. Many state and local governments only regulate the dumping of waste materials, but we take it a step further by recycling whenever possible. In 2023*, we recycled over 20,000 tons of solid waste. In that same year, our re-recycling of selected hazardous waste prevented the emission of over 900 tons of greenhouse gas (GHG).

Here’s how closed-loop recycling works in collision repair:

Caliber’s 1-year recycling is equivalent to growing a 90-acre forest for 10 years

According to the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator, 900 tons of GHG prevented is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by planting 13,500 trees AND growing them for 10 years.

Sustainable practices and cost savings

Our sustainable practices help control repair costs, ultimately benefiting drivers. We leverage our national scale and corporate structure to monitor compliance internally, with dedicated environmental specialists and leadership deeply involved in our sustainability initiatives.
